I read a Wired article: "What Real Women Want in Their Gadgets". I personally do not care for pink or make ups. I do not care for the glossy make ups that make up of the commercials. I do like my gadgets. I love that the fact that they do what they need to do. They do have the power to last. They have the specifics that I need to do my work and leisure on. (DVD, TV viewing, sound, camera, video, etc) Bonus would be the the stylish appearance. Apple is very pricey for me to afford, well unless I go to the refurbishment bins for their equipments. Dell, I haven't had the desire for any yet. Sony I am planning to get one soon. HP, I have a few products around, they are not hippest. I usually buy my gadgets for their usefulness for me, long term use, recyclable to the next person if possible and of course price! I haven't get the ugliest gadget since 2007 expect my Samsung cellular phone.
I find this via: a friendfeed feed: haven't tried them yet or could vouch them yet, sounds neat or interesting.
Flexplore - this tool analyzes your (or any other Flickr account) collection of favorites and suggests similar looking pictures you may like. It worked pretty spot on for me, and I no longer have to look through pages after pages of flowers to find a good seascape or a B&W image. Try it for yourself.
Slickr - this program is a screensaver for your PC that displays all your favorite Flickr pictures in the large format when your computer is in a screensaver mode. If you're on Mac, FlickrFan does pretty much the same thing (I use both, since I work on a PC during the day while I use Mac for my photography). I now can kick back and enjoy a high quality sideshows of pictures that I found interesting on Flickr. I've also recently realized that I don't 'favorite' enough of pictures. Over 2.5 years on Flickr I accumulated just 2,000 of favs. Thomas Hawk told me recently that he 'faved' over 60,000 of pictures. Now that's an impressive collection of photography to look through.
Photophlow - this is pretty much a chat room, but with a Flickr twist to it. If you have a community of contacts on Flickr, it's a fun way to extend the conversation and bring pictures into the mix.
1. Some interesting websites caught into my attention. I would say quite interesting. I went to weblin.com and saw a bunch of avatars and download their software. No virus to worry about. Thats good first step. The instructions are relatively simple. Its Internet Explorer and Firefox friendly. After that, lets get going. The experience, very boring at first. This application enables you to meet others from different countries. Then when you head to youtube.com for example, way too many people on your screen. Its so distracting when you're surfing on videos. Why bother to watch videos while distracted by avatars? Oh, well because these are social utility for the people who want to meet people through surfing avatar-ly.(Appeared: CNN Money, Financial Times- weblin.com)
2. I Make Mistakes- I went to this site and my jaws dropped! I thought that the Post Secret with the Post Card http://postsecret.blogspot.com/thing is way on the top. Oh, well, the next confession website post- I Make Mistakes is here. People anonymously confess any kind of mistakes. Anything! I mean. Big and small. Your whole life is exposed. The site description: I Make Mistakes lets you post your mistakes and rank the stupidity level of others' ... I knew it was just completely ignorant, and half made up "mistakes" ...
The site stated that its a social experiment. Post only mistakes. Please don't troll or spam. All those basic rules we all know like: don't say: racist, sexist or homophobic stuff etc...
The site have: Common Mistakes and Worst Mistakes.
A few that were listed there which I think I even do make and I don't need reminder:
Had a crush on someone I knew wouldn't like me.
I used Windows.
I forget to bring Kleenex.
I slack.
Even the site's spelling looks funny. Thats the main attraction.
3. doxory- this is a site that you put a question and somebody or someone will answer questions of yours ranging from very dumb to the very serious. Do we need doxory to make our choices for us already? If you do, please head there to register and type in your question, perhaps you might get some help. You can ask such questions like: What should I wear for my prom? What should I have for dinner? What should I bring for my summer vacation? What should I do with homework? Note: everyone can see your questions and the answers.
I do confess after 30 some odd years of life, and also more then 15 years of online experience, I feel a tad bit overwhelmed that the fact the people younger than I am are more open and willing to let a great deal of things out in the open. I am in Facebook, MySpace, Hi5, LiveSpaces and I could not even keep up how many more social networking places I have for a 30 something. As doxory quoted: "If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, its your own damn fault."
Not very often do I see or hear the most disturbing news in my lifetime as a Generation XYer.
What am I talking about here? I can see the increasingly amount of cyber bullying towards our
children from grade 1 to high schoolers. A number of videos that were released from American
television stations from CNN to NBC made me feel very heart ridden. The one in particular, the
girl that passed away a year ago because someone from MySpace bullied her. There were more
videos of bullying of course that I could point out, but that would be way too depressing and sad
to point out. They do not deserve being treated that way due to the fact that they are in the most
vulnerable stage of growing up. Everyday they have to grow up faster then the last generation due
to the pressures that they face from the technologies and the bullying from their peers. I also see
the increasingly violent and cruel world of our youths that they have to face without the guidance
from adults and it makes them feel depressed and turn to ends like drugs, crimes, suicides and sex.
Every year I would go to my school reunion activities, technologies are rampantly and the use of
the computer, I guess are pretty responsible because its pretty monitored by the school. Here is
the positive use of technology as I illustrated here.
Be informed and skeptical.
