QotD: Looking Back and Laughing

  • Dec 29, 2008

What will you look back on from 2008 and laugh the hardest about?

"Chinglish"- Speaking both English and Chinese in one's sentences.

the website to look at- Engrish.com
During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Chinglish has become my favorite word.  I was not aware until a few years ago when Engrish.com came along with mis-translated English, in which I had been used to for so many years when I went back home to Hong Kong or parts of Asia to visit my family.  The;westerners would mis-understand their meanings.  I never took a moment until the Olympics came along to take note how mis-translated some of the signs or some of the products were.  Some of them, they are really funny, without meaning to be.

Ornaments that speaks to Trees

  • Dec 17, 2008

I love the Christmas/holiday trees that are brightly shining upon us lately everywhere.  Some have its own characteristics, some has its own shapes, some I have seen were unique: without any pine needles on them.  On these trees, usually, there are lights, garlands, toppers and the ornaments.  Over the years, ornaments are decorated in trees, and some can have meanings or not.  This year, I noticed a particular tree without any decorations, and only with lights.  In the traditional end, there is a tree that is decorated in the White House with the theme of "a Red, White and Blue Christmas.  The ornaments itself can be seen on the website by each State.  For more about the tree and the ornaments- White House tree here

Barbie's triumph=Bratz's fans sad day!

A lot of us grow ups with Barbie, and I did too.  I heard of Bratz a few years ago and I do not think of them very much until there was a movie about them.  Later on, there were parents saying that these dolls were too much for pre-teens.  Now, these Bratz lost their court case vs Barbie.  Barbie will remain as always, good or bad reputations, mockery, or not our favorite collectible and kids playtime dressups.

I would not call in sick

Even movie stars like Meryl Streep would not call in sick when she was coughing and sneezing.  She went to David Letterman with a tissue, well, did we remember that he rant and rave about John McCain showed up on Katie Couric and David got very upset?
