The Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs
The Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs- The definitive list of the Hot 100's top 100 songs from the chart's first 50 years, August 1958 through July 2008.
The Billboard came out with this list- by genre they ranked these songs. Not quite- some of these songs overlapped categories. I was shocked to hear some of these songs on the list- Mariah Carey- We Belong Together, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, (not that I do not like Mariah Carey, but where there better tunes of hers?) , Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney (huh- Say, Say, Say- whats that?), and some of the songs, what are they on the list for- since 1999 on, the tunes does not last on our consciousness for more then a month. If you even remember any of the tunes such as: Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry, Family Affair- Mary J. Blinge, and U Got It Bad- Usher. I have more memory with Beyonce or even Savage Garden or Sheryl Crow. I am a bit disappointed with the selections of hot 100 of all time which do not include- Celine Dion's- My Heart Will Go On- from Titanic movie. To get to the reason and how the Billboard picked their hot 100- this is partial description on how the Billboard did the list.
The 50th Anniversary Hot 100 Song and Artist charts are based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100, since the chart's inception in August 1958 through the issue dated July 26, 2008. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least.
The description was interesting enough- based on numbers strictly, it makes no sense. A common person would not even understand how these charts are calculated at all. For more information on how they calculate this chart, I wish I could explain, but from what I understand- they use from the following sources- Nielson Music data, Nielson BDS, and Nielson Sound Scan.
The result: The listeners and the readers of the Billboard magazine are having a good time tearing apart the hot 100. The Billboard used very limited sources to obtain their top 100 all time top songs.
